The 10th World Water Forum: Indonesia Seizes the Momentum to Prioritize Water Infrastructure

Jakarta, 23 April 2024 - The Indonesian Association of Drinking Water Companies (Perpamsi) revealed that the hosting of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali on May 18-25, 2024, could be a pivotal moment for Indonesia to prioritize water infrastructure.

Subekti, the Executive Director of Perpamsi, stated that Indonesia's current water infrastructure still needs improvement regarding governance, development strategies, and other crucial aspects in the drinking water and sanitation sectors.

If these issues are not addressed promptly, they could hinder Indonesia's progress towards becoming a developed country by 2045, particularly in the drinking water and sanitation sectors.

"This is a moment for Indonesia to push for improvements in governance, development strategies, and so forth, especially in the drinking water and sanitation sectors, whether it's piped drinking water or sanitation," said Subekti.

Perpamsi welcomes the hosting of the 10th World Water Forum because water issues are currently a significant global agenda and are also important for Indonesia concerning improving water governance.

"We welcome this because water issues are a global agenda, and the hosting of the World Water Forum in Indonesia, where we are still struggling with improving water governance," said Subekti.

The Indonesian government has invited 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate and support the success of the 10th World Water Forum.

The Indonesian government targets around 30,000 to 50,000 participants from various countries to attend the forum. Ambassadors play a crucial role in promoting the forum to attract more contributing participants.

Through the 10th World Water Forum, the Indonesian government is committed to urging countries and stakeholders in the water sector worldwide to prioritize water-related issues on the global agenda.

The 10th World Water Forum will focus on four main themes: water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disasters. Its organization consists of three components: thematic processes, regional processes, and political processes. (Aji Cakti, Kelik Dewanto/Elvira Inda Sari/TR)
