10th World Water Forum Produces Funding Agreement for IKN and Banten Water Infrastructure Projects

The 10th World Water Forum produced a concrete action plan with the funding agreement signing for the Karian-Serpong Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) and a memorandum of understanding on Net-Zero Water Supply Infrastructure Project in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN).

The memorandum of understanding was signed after the 10th High-Level Panel (HLP1) World Water Forum at Nusantara 2 Room, Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Bali, on Tuesday, 21 May.

“These are two concrete results since the holding of the 10th World Water Forum. Aside from these two, there will be other agreements from this forum," said the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and the Chief Operating Officer of the 10th World Water Forum National Organizing Committee Basuki Hadimuljono.

The Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM funding agreement was signed by the Country Manager of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Euan Marshall, Principal Investment Specialist at Asian Development Bank (ADB) Yuichiro Yoi, Director General of Power and Energy Finance Department K-Exim Jae-Sun Shim, Managing Director Development Bank of Singapore Kunardy Darma Lie, and President Director of PT Karian Water Service Kyeong Yun Jeong.

Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM is a National Strategic Project with 4,600 liters/second capacity. This SPAM is expected to provide access to drinking water to 1.84 million people living in DKI Jakarta Province and Banten Province, especially in Tangerang City and South Tangerang City. The Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM project has an investment value of IDR 2.4 trillion.

"With the signing of this funding agreement, I am optimistic that this project will be completed soon," said Basuki.

Another tangible result of the 10th World Water Forum was a memorandum of understanding regarding Net-Zero Water Supply Infrastructure Project at IKN Nusantara. The MoU was signed by the Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti and Vice President of K-Water Han Seong Yong. K-Water is a South Korean state-owned company.

"These two agreements show that the Indonesian government is always trying to create innovative funding," said Basuki. Basuki also emphasized that the Korean government's support will accelerate the construction of other SPAMs in IKN this year.

Previously, the PUPR Ministry had built a SPAM project with 300 liters capacity per second at IKN, which was planned to operate in July 2024. (Yandi/Firda Puri/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WS)
