10th World Water Forum Opens Up Trillions of Rupiah Worth of Investment Opportunities

for Indonesia

The world's largest international water forum, the 10th World Water Forum which will be held on 18—25 May 2024 in Bali, is expected to result in several important agreements for Indonesia, including bilateral and multilateral cooperation worth trillions of rupiah.

This was stated by the Special Advisor to the Minister on Water Resources Management, Firdaus Ali, in Badung, Bali, on Monday, 6 May 2024.

"There are commitments that have been discussed, the Coordinating Minister (Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, ed) will explain more details. There are several projects worth trillions [of rupiah]," he said.

Therefore, as the host country, Indonesia is not only determined to ensure the success of the 10th World Water Forum but also to encourage outputs and outcomes that countries in the world can execute at the project level and real action in the field.

“This is not just a ceremonial activity. This meeting will discuss actual realities in the field, so concrete steps are needed. That's why the President of the World Bank has stated that he will attend. Likewise with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB)," said Firdaus.

For information, at the 10th World Water Forum, a business meeting with strategic partners will also be held to discuss potential cooperation and investment related to water infrastructure development.

As the host, Indonesia in this session will also ask for commitment from strategic partner countries in the context of cooperation in water infrastructure development.

Previously, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Mohammad Zainal Fatah, also revealed that Indonesia would offer a number of strategic projects worth US$9.6 billion or Rp154 trillion. Some of these projects were selected by the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas).

The 10th World Water Forum carries the theme "Water for Shared Prosperity". This theme is in line with the commitment of countries around the world to find solutions to improve and manage sustainable water resources as a step to address uncertain climate change.

The forum will focus on discussing four issues, including water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disasters.

A total of 244 sessions in the forum are expected to provide concrete results regarding the mainstreaming of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on Small Islands, the establishment of a centre of excellence or best practices for water and climate resilience called the Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), as well as the establishment of World Lakes Day.

Together with the World Water Council (WWC), Indonesia also invites 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate in the 10th World Water Forum. (TR/Elvira Inda Sari/ug/PR)
