World Water Forum Forms Global Water Conservation Partnership

The 10th World Water Forum, taking place in Bali from 18 to 25 May, will be able to create strategic and collaborative partnerships for global water conservation initiatives.

This was emphasized by the Public Works and Housing Minister’s special staff for water resources, Firdaus Ali, on Thursday, 25 April, in Jakarta.

"The 10th World Water Forum in Bali plays a role in strengthening international cooperation. This forum allows countries to form strategic and collaborative partnerships to support global water conservation initiatives," he stated.

Firdaus also stated that the forum will open up global discussions. The World Water Forum provides a platform for stakeholders from many countries and backgrounds to share knowledge, experience, and best practices in water conservation and management.

It will also promote innovation, whereas Bali, as the host, may inspire innovation in sustainable water management technologies and encourage its global application.

For example, Bali's Subak system has been designated by UNESCO as one of the world's rich heritages of community-based irrigation systems.

"The 10th World Water Forum in Bali is also to formulate policies. This forum provides an opportunity to develop or update policies that promote water conservation and efficient and effective use of water resources,” said Firdaus Ali.

The World Water Forum will help raise public awareness about the necessity of water conservation and the challenges associated with sustainable water resource management.

The world's largest water forum, to be held in Badung, Bali, focuses on four key issues: water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation.

The 244 sessions are expected to yield concrete results in mainstreaming Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on Small Islands, establishing the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and establishing World Lakes Day.
