10th World Water Forum Kicks Off with Balinese Water Purification Ceremony

The Melukat procession, a Balinese water purification ceremony, kicked off the 10th World Water Forum series of events on Saturday, 18 May 2024, at 03.00 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (GMT+8) at Surf Surf By The Wave Beach, Kura Kura Bali Area, Denpasar. The delegates were welcomed with the harmony of Gambelan Gong Gede, which Balinese people usually use to accompany sacred dances.

The worship procession began with sacred dances as an offering medium. These include Topeng Panasar, Sang Hyang Jaran, Sang Hyang Dedari, Baris Cerkuak, Rejang Putri Maya, and Sidikarya Mask Dances.

On this occasion, Acting Bali Governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya delivered introductory remarks as the host of the 10th World Water Forum, followed by remarks by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

After that, the Hindu congregation present at the ceremony conducted a communal prayer led by a priest. The procession concluded with the release of animals into the wild, which included 1,000 hatchlings, 1,000 birds, and 5 turtles.

The world's largest water forum, the 10th World Water Forum, will be held on 18–25 May 2024. This meeting focuses on four areas: water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, as well as mitigation of natural disasters. (TR/Elvira Inda Sari/ug/PR)
