10th World Water Forum Theme Aligns with UNICEF's Goals

The 10th World Water Forum’s theme, “Water for Shared Prosperity,” aligns with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) goals.

Salathiel Nali, WASH (Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation) Specialist for UNICEF Indonesia, revealed this in Jakarta on Thursday (2 May 2024).

According to Nali, UNICEF's goals include several focus areas, including children's need for access to clean water, water scarcity, and child health. UNICEF believes many children are still living in water-scarce areas, which negatively affects their health.

Nali also mentioned that the theme of the 10th World Water Forum, held on 18 – 25 May in Bali, includes the connection between climate change and diminishing water supply that poses a significant threat to children's welfare.

“Therefore, finding solutions for shared water prosperity will be crucial in a world experiencing climate change,” said Nali.

Nali also emphasized that UNICEF strongly supports the right to clean water and sanitation. UNICEF considers the 10th World Water Forum to promote direct, equitable access to water.

The 10th World Water Forum will focus on four key areas, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation.

The forum’s 244 sessions are expected to yield concrete results regarding the mainstreaming of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on small islands, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and the declaration of World Lake Day.

The Indonesian government has invited 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate in and contribute to the success of the 10th World Water Forum. (Katriana, Yni Arisandy/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WW/PR)
