Tahura Ngurah Rai Ready to Welcome 10th World Water Forum Delegates

The mangrove conservation area of Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura) in Bali is ready to welcome delegates of the 10th World Water Forum. The forum’s delegates will participate in mangrove planting activities at Tahura Ngurah Rai as scheduled.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (MPWH) has completed the renovation of the Tahura Ngurah Rai area in preparation for the 10th World Water Forum, which will take place from 18 to 25 May 2024.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (MPWH) Basuki Hadimuljono stated that Bali, as the host of the 10th World Water Forum, will be made environmentally friendly through extensive infrastructure improvements supported by massive greening efforts.

“The mangrove area of Tahura has been renovated, and there will be mangrove planting activities,” said Basuki in Jakarta (15 May).

MPWH has constructed mangrove nursery and planting facility at Tahura Ngurah Rai. This facility consists of three main buildings: the Production House Area for planting seedlings, the Germination House Area for developing seedlings into sprouts, and the Open Growth Area for nurturing mangroves until they reach a height of 30—50 cm.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the renovation of Tahura Ngurah Rai alongside the inauguration of the Danu Kerthi Tamblang Dam in Buleleng Regency in early February 2023. The renovation works were carried out in parallel by MPWH through several agencies, namely the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) Bali of the Directorate General of Human Settlements, the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) of the Directorate General of Highways, and the Bali-Penida River Basin Center (BWS) of the Directorate General of Water Resources.

The 10th World Water Forum will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, with the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity.” The forum will cover several subthemes, including Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation and Hydro-diplomacy, Sustainable Water Finance, as well as Knowledge and Innovation.

The 10th World Water Forum will feature a total of 244 sessions and is expected to yield concrete outcomes on the mainstreaming of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) for small islands, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and the designation of World Lake Day.
