120 Strategic Projects Worth Billions of USD to be Produced at 10th World Water Forum

Approximately 120 strategic projects related to water and sanitation worth US$9.4 billion will be agreed upon at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, slated to be held on 18—25  May 2024.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said this when opening the 10th World Water Forum National Committee Coordination Meeting at Laguna Resort and Spa Bali on Thursday (16 May).

"We must produce concrete deliverables from this forum. We will implement 120 strategic water projects worth US$9.4 billion, including a follow-up to Indonesia's initiative at the G20 in 2022, namely the G20 Bali Global Blended Finance Alliance (GBFA). It will support funding for climate action, including overcoming water crisis. We will hold the launching of GBFA Secretariat and signing of LoIs with several countries as Founding Members on 20 May. I hope the State Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can facilitate high-level invitees who haven’t had entry access yet," he said.

Luhut also revealed that 13,448 participants from 148 countries will attend the world's largest water forum. The VVIP delegations comprise 8 heads of state and heads of government, three special envoys, and 38 ministers.

"There’s an increasing interest towards this event. We have members of parliament from various countries, regional representatives, associations, private companies and youth," he explained.

On this occasion, Luhut asked all parties involved in the preparations for the 10th World Water Forum to ensure detailed preparations because President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and several heads of state will be present.

"The attendance of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the VVIPs requires us to make the most elaborate preparation for the 10th World Water Forum," he stressed.

Apart from that, he continued, it is also necessary to pay attention to media publications, especially international media. In particular, on the outcome of the Ministerial Declaration with three Indonesia’s proposals, namely Integrated water resources management on small islands, Center of Excellence on water and climate resilience, and the declaration of World Lake Day, which will be submitted to the UN to be included in the UN-Water Agenda.

Coordinating Minister Luhut also asked the security sector to pay attention to the utmost security and safety of the attending guests.

On the same occasion, the Chief Operating Officer of the 10th World Water Forum National Organizing Committee and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljo, revealed that the Ministerial Meeting would be attended by around 103 Ministers from 132 countries.

"This is still dynamic, because 99 countries have not given their confirmation yet," he said, adding that his party would also invite students from four schools every day to be able to witness the processes taking place at the forum.

As of 17 May, of the 13,000 who registered formally, approximately 2,900 registrants are National participants with 1,600 participants from ministries and committees. There are also 1,357 speakers from both Indonesia and overseas, and 4,890 media exhibitors and sponsors.

Two exhibitions will be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), namely Country Pavilion and the Organization Pavilion. A total of 21 countries are confirmed to take part in this exhibition.

To date, 188 media outlets and 690 journalists have confirmed their attendance. These journalists are from 41 foreign media and 64 national media. (Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Communication Bureau/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WS/PR)
