National Police Deploys Cavalry at 10th World Water Forum

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has deployed the Turangga Detachment, a cavalry unit, to secure the area where the 10th World Water Forum will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, from 18 to 25 May 2024.

Head of the Sterilization Sub-Task Force of the Puri Agung 2024 Operation’s Preventive Task Force, Police Commissioner Harri Muharram Firmansyah, said in his statement Thursday (16 May) in Denpasar that the cavalry came from the Directorate of Animal Police, Samapta Bhayangkara Corps, of the National Police’s Security Maintenance Agency (Ditpolsatwa Korsabhara Baharkam).

"Four horses have been prepared, from the warmblood type, originating from the Netherlands," said Harri.

Harri explained that the cavalry is to be deployed for preventive activities, including patrols, especially on the routes or around the area of ITDC Nusa Dua Bali, which is the venue for the 10th World Water Forum.

"These horse-riding troops are for carrying out activities at locations impassable by vehicles. However, in this event, (the cavalry) only carries out patrols over medium distances," he said.

Harry also said that in addition to the cavalry, his party also deployed 34 sniffer dogs or K9s to provide security from Gilimanuk Harbor to Ketapang Harbor on the West Nusa Tenggara border to prevent crime.

Meanwhile, veterinarian Nadia Kamila said that her party has prepared the horses to be in their best condition, with health checks and vitamins being administered.

"This is to avoid their conditions dropping in the face of weather changes. We are not alone. We are also working together with the handlers," she said.

The National Police deployed 5,791 personnel in Operation Puri Agung 2024, with the support of various modern facilities and infrastructure integrated through the National Police Command Center, to ensure the security of VVIPs and VIPs during arrival and departure and at the accommodation.

In a troop roll call held at Niti Mandala Field, Denpasar, Wednesday (15 April), Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command II, TNI Middle Marshal M. Khairil Lubis said there were more than 14,000 joint personnel deployed. They are from the Military, the National Police, and elements of ministries and regional government in Bali.
