Indonesia, Tajikistan to Strengthen Cooperation on Water Governance

Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Tajikistani Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda met at a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) on Monday, 20 May. The two leaders discussed enhancing collaboration in water resources management. They both agreed that overcoming global water challenges required worldwide commitment.

On this occasion, President Jokowi thanked Tajikistan for supporting the forum's outcome document, which will be adopted. The President confirmed Indonesia's commitment to guaranteeing the sustainability of clean water for shared prosperity.

“I hope for Tajikistan's contribution as one of the leaders in global water policy to find joint solutions,” said President Jokowi.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rasulzoda appreciated the invitation and underscored that Indonesia is a key partner to Tajikistan. The Prime Minister recognized Indonesia's constructive contribution to regional and international issues.

"Tajikistan acknowledges Indonesia as a key regional partner and is enthusiastic about fostering multilateral cooperation that benefits both parties. We are extremely appreciative of Indonesia's significant economic and social development achievements. Indonesia's constructive participation in regional and international affairs is valuable," he remarked.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister invited Indonesia to participate in the international conference on the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development" in Dushanbe.

Prime Minister Rasulzoda also emphasized that 2024 will mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which presents an opportunity to strengthen and broaden cooperation.

“In 2024, Tajikistan and Indonesia will celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations, and I believe our relationship still needs to be strengthened and expanded,” he said.
