10^th World Water Forum Exceeds Expectations with Highest Number of Participants

As the 10th World Water Forum draws to a close at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), the number of participants who took part in sessions and panels continues to increase. As of Wednesday, 22 May, about 50,000 people have participated in various discussions.

The World Water Council stated that since the first World Water Forum in 1997 in Morocco, the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia, is the best-organized in 30 years.

“This includes the number of visitors. The number is huge. Various parties, including the World Water Council, have expressed their appreciation for the forum, which is considered to be well-run. It exceeds expectation," said Endra Atmawidjaja, Expert Staff to the Public Works and Housing Minister, at BNDCC, on Wednesday, 23 March.

Endra added that 160 countries were involved, with 133 countries signed and delivered country statements. "This is something to be proud of thanks to the hard work of all parties," Endra said.

The attendees included journalists, participants, the organizing committee, exhibitors, delegations, event supporters, and high-ranking officials from various countries.

The participants were enthusiastic because in addition to the main meeting, the 10th World Water Forum was enlivened with various side events, such as water management innovation expos from countries, seminars, panel discussions, and public dialogues. These became magnets that attracted participants, such as academics, students, researchers, delegates, and non-governmental organizations.

According to Endra, the 10th World Water Forum is a source of pride for Indonesia. He also thanked the media for continuous coverage for the public regarding the outcomes of the 10th World Water Forum.

"This forum is important. We involve children from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools as a form of early education about water. It is crucial to know and understand water issues from an early age," said Endra.

The 10th World Water Forum takes place from 18 to 25 May. The Ministerial Level Meeting attended by 106 countries and 27 international organizations produced a Ministerial Declaration emphasizing three main points.

The first is to establish a center of excellence on water and climate resilience for capacity building, knowledge sharing, and utilization of superior facilities.

The second is to raise and promote the issue of integrated water resources management on small islands. Although it is surrounded by vast bodies of water, Indonesia still requires an excellent management system to overcome challenges related to the quality and availability of clean water.
