Bali Provincial Government to Monitor Traffic Flow 24 Hours during the 10th World Water Forum
The Bali Provincial Government has confirmed to deploy personnel from the Transportation Office (Dishub) for 24 hours at the Area Traffic Control System (ATCS) from the arrival of delegates to the peak of the 10th World Water Forum. This aims to anticipate traffic congestion at various points during the side and main events.
"We have deployed 18 rotating teams in the ATCS control room, which operates 24 hours. Since the delegates’ schedule is unpredictable, we need to monitor the ATCS continuously," said I Putu Sutaryana, the Head of the Traffic Division at the Bali Transportation Department, in Denpasar on Tuesday, 14 May.
Personnel in the ATCS control rooms will ensure the smooth management of traffic lights to provide a clear path for the delegates. The control rooms are in Patung Satria Gatot Kaca, Kuta, Sanur, and Denpasar.
"If a delegate motorcade is stuck, we will extend the green light duration to prevent traffic jams, as we experienced during the New Year's Eve celebrations last year," he added.
The control rooms owned by the Bali Provincial Government directly manage the main provincial roads, including those in South Badung and South Denpasar, which provide access to the venue of the 10th World Water Forum.
For the designated tourist destinations in other regencies and cities where the delegates will visit, the Bali Transportation Office coordinates with the ATCS in the areas to ensure the traffic.
In addition to utilizing the traffic light control system to ensure smooth traffic flow, the Bali Transportation Department implements road closure schemes on main roads crossed by the delegates' motorcade.
Traffic diversion is expected to occur on the road from Ngurah Rai International Airport to the Nusa Dua area, then to the Pulau Serangan area, as well as the tourist attractions visited by the delegates.
Regarding the duration, the Bali Transportation Department estimates that the main delegations will begin arriving a day before the event, on Friday, 17 May.
Sutaryana could not confirm how long road users would experience disruptions due to road closures but he ensured that it will not last long.
"We will temporarily close the roads, and no other vehicles will be allowed to pass, but once the delegates have passed, the roads will be reopened. Currently, outside of the 10th World Water Forum, the conditions are normal," he explained.
According to him, this arrangement is not new to residents living in the South Badung and South Denpasar areas, as Bali frequently hosts similar international events.
Nevertheless, he reminded the public that the 10th World Water Forum, to be held from 18 to 25 May, will be attended by delegates from many countries.
"The important thing is that starting from 17 May, people should avoid using roads where the delegates will be passing through. The police and military will install signs," said Sutaryana.
The Bali Transportation Office has issued announcements regarding potential traffic disruptions, restrictions on truck movements, guidelines for tourists and guides, and requests to souvenir shop owners to help ensure smooth traffic flow. (Ni Putu Putri, Triono Subagyo/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/SW/Flo)
