Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Calls for Immediate Realization of Integrated and Sustainable Water Management

The National Water Resources Council is urged to work promptly to expedite the establishment of integrated and sustainable water management in Indonesia.

This request was made by The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, who also serves as the Chairman of the National Water Resources Council, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, in his statement on Tuesday (30 April) in Jakarta. "In carrying out our duties and functions in the future, we must continuously improve," said Minister Luhut.

He emphasized that collaboration between the government and various stakeholders is crucial to ensure the sustainability of water resources in Indonesia. This is because the challenges and issues related to water resources globally are becoming increasingly complex.

There are many factors that have brought global attention to water-related issues. For example, the impacts of climate change are becoming more noticeable and widespread. Additionally, conflicts of interest are increasing due to the decreasing availability of water, both in terms of quantity and quality.

"Hence, the sustainability of water resources is the responsibility of all parties, not only the government. Non-governmental elements should also synergize, collaborate, and work together to ensure the sustainability of water resources in Indonesia," said Luhut.

During this opportunity, Minister Luhut specifically requested the participation of the National Water Resources Council in providing concrete solutions at the 10th World Water Forum, which will be held in Bali from 18 to 25 May 2024.

"This is to ensure that the forum can produce solutions to address challenges in the field of water. I hope the National Water Resources Council can actively participate, particularly in providing concrete, innovative, and implementable inputs," concluded Minister Luhut.

For your information, the National Water Resources Council was established based on Presidential Decree No. 18 of 2024. (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/SW/PR)
