Future of Global Water to be Determined in Bali

It is believed that Indonesia will have a major influence on water governance decision-making and policies for the global interest. The 10th World Water Forum on May 18-25, 2024 in Bali also serves as momentum to ensure that the whole world moves together to maintain the sustainability of water resources for human life.

This was affirmed by the Vice Chairman of the Secretariat of the 10th World Water Forum National Committee as well as Advisor for Technology, Industry and Environment to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Endra S. Atmawidjaja, Wednesday (24 April 2024) in Jakarta.

"Since the beginning in various forums, Indonesia has consistently encouraged water issues to be discussed at the highest level. There must be strong encouragement from policy makers," said Endra.

Indonesia brought three special missions to be agreed upon at the meeting in Bali. The three missions are the Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience, mainstream integrated water management in small islands, and World Lake Days as a routine event.

"It is important to discuss this because the lake is one of the main sources, energy and even flood control," he said.

The 10th World Water Forum has three main processes, namely political, regional, and thematic processes where all three will involve various stakeholders. Starting from state leaders, ministers, regional leaders, academics, researchers, to the younger generation who will exchange ideas.

There were 230 thematic forum sessions, 55 side events, and 10 special sessions in this event. In addition, the Indonesian government also invited 44 heads of state, 4 heads of international institutions, and 198 ministers or ministerial level responsible for water resources issues.

The series of events will be opened with the Balinese Water Purification Ceremony which is one of the traditional Balinese rituals with the concept of Rahina Tumpek Uye activities and Segara Kerthi Ceremony.

Then on May 20, 2024, it will continue with the Opening Ceremony and High-Level Meeting at BICC, Nusa Dua. After that, there will be interface meetings with those in charge of political, thematic and regional processes, as well as bilateral meetings with several heads of state.

On the same day, the opening of the Fair and Expo at Nusa Dua Hall BNDCC will be held. The Fair and Expo locations will be spread across BNDCC, BICC, and Kuta Beach. Sessions on political, thematic and regional processes will be held from 20 to 25 May 2024. Meanwhile, specifically for the High-Level Meeting and Ministerial Meeting will be held from 20 to 21 May 2024.

In addition, there will be a Cultural Night (Farewell) at Taman Bhagawan on May 24, 2024. Guests can enjoy signature food, regional dances, and Indonesian culture.

The closing of the event will take place on May 25, 2024. After the World Water Forum activities are over, participants will also be invited to a field trip to enjoy the beauty of Bali such as the Water Museum in Tabanan, Jatiluwih UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Batur Kintamani, and Ubud Cultural Village.
