Electricity for 10th World Water Forum Ready in Early May

PT PLN (Persero) confirms that all necessary arrangements for the electrical supply for the 10th World Water Forum in Bali will be fully completed by early May 2024.

This statement was conveyed by Wayan Udayana, General Manager of PT PLN Bali Main Distribution Unit I, during a limited meeting with the Bali Regional Intelligence Agency (Binda) in Denpasar Bali on Tuesday, 30 April 2024.

Udayana stated that PLN's preparations are now at an average of 47 percent and that they plan to complete them up to 100 percent by early May.

On this occasion, BIN and PLN also signed a memorandum of understanding for the supervision of the electricity sector, with the goal of ensuring the reliability of the electricity supply in Bali through a solid regional communication network.

“Every meeting of regional leaders is normally reported to the head of BIN and the director of PLN. Thus, cooperation to exchange information via this memorandum of understanding is required,” he stated.

Udayana explained that Bali is an important location since it frequently hosts large-scale international events and serves as a showcase for Indonesia. This necessitates reliable electricity and its risk mitigation, including generators, transmission, distribution, and the availability of supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles.

“Regarding readiness, PLN has taken many steps, notably in primary energy and generation. We guarantee that the Power Plant Operation Day (HOP) is adequate and safe,” he said.

According to him, the energy system in Bali has a capacity of 1,408 megawatts (MW), and the maximum peak load recorded was 1,107 MW. This means there is still a power reserve of up to 21 percent.

In addition to that, PLN is also revitalizing transmission equipment and conducting outreach on kite flying regulations.

"On the distribution side, we are fortifying both the low and medium voltage networks and conducting installation checks at each location. In addition, operational pattern simulations are used to map and minimize various risks," he explained.

He stated that synergy and coordination with multiple stakeholders are ongoing to complete these preparations within the desired schedule.

PLN's alert period runs from 15 May until the end of the event, with a peak alert on 19—20 May 2024, when the World Water Forum takes place.

Security is focused on several locations, including Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) as the gala dinner venue, Bali International Convention Center (BICC) as the opening venue, Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), Ngurah Rai Forest Park Area (Tahura), Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), The Meru Hotel, and 15 hotels for ITDC attendees.

Aside from that, PLN is preparing electric car charging, which include 12 Ultra-Fast Charging (UFC) Public Electric Car Charging Stations (SPKLU), 26 SPKLU Standard Charging (SC), and 20 SPLU units.

Meanwhile, BIN representative Colonel Agus expressed his readiness to collaborate with PLN to ensure the success of the World Water Forum.

In addition, he admitted that future cooperation to preserve electrical reliability in Bali will be ready for implementation. (Rolandus Nampu, Adi Lazuardi/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/SC/PR).
