The Benefits of the 10th World Water Forum for Indonesia

Indonesia's role as the host of the 10th World Water Forum is a crucial momentum to showcase to the world its commitment and tangible contributions in the field of water resources. Through this world's largest international water forum, Indonesia can serve as a role model for other nations for its success in managing water resources.

Endra S. Atmawidjaja, Vice Chairman of the National Secretariat Committee for the 10th World Water Forum and Senior Advisor for Technology, Industry, and Environment to the Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), stated that Indonesia will share its experiences in addressing water resource management challenges and successes.

"Indonesia will also showcase several projects in the 10th World Water Forum. We hope that various collaborations and agreements will emerge from this meeting to be followed up with real implementation," said Endra, on Thursday (25 April 2023). Furthermore, he conveyed that the 10th World Water Forum is also a milestone in accelerating one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Stakeholders will collaborate to find solutions to global water issues in this forum.

Firdaus Ali, Special Advisor for Water Resources to the Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), added that the 10th World Water Forum is the largest meeting in history held after the COVID-19 pandemic, with Indonesia being the third country in Asia to host it, after Japan and South Korea.

"The 10th World Water Forum in Bali is a monumental meeting to transform all policies, spirits, and enthusiasm to collectively embrace the future, making water a source of life and peace, rather than a source of conflict and disaster," said Firdaus.

Previously, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Chairman of Division V Fair and Expo of the 10th World Water Forum and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, believed that the 10th World Water Forum would be a golden opportunity for Indonesia to introduce its cultural diversity and tourism, especially Bali, to the world. Especially since one of the highlights of this meeting is the melukat procession or Balinese water purification ceremony, which is a Balinese cultural ritual with the concept of Rahina Tumpek Uye and Segara Kerthi ceremonies.

Therefore, the main support provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will be to facilitate delegates to immerse themselves in the melukat process, which has special spiritual significance for the Balinese people. This melukat procession will involve the local government.

"In the final days of President Jokowi's administration, we will truly prepare it as an event to remember. We will prepare several locations for this side event procession," said Sandiaga.

Indonesia is the third country in Asia after Japan and South Korea to be chosen as the host of the 10th World Water Forum. The forum, held on May 18-25, 2024, will feature three main processes: thematic, regional, and political, as well as six sub-themes aligned with the outcomes of the World Water Conference in New York in 2023.
