FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Indonesia Offers Irrigation, Hydropower Projects at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali

Jakarta, 24 April 2024 – Indonesia has offered a number of strategic projects which will be included in the compendium at the 10th World Water Forum to be held on 18-25 May 2024 in Bali. Starting from modernizing irrigation with the World Bank to hydroelectric power plants (PLTA).

"The (Indonesian) strategic projects offered are about modernizing irrigation, about drinking water, dams, and hydropower. That is what we hope to appear in the compendium," said the Advisor for Technology, Industry and Environment to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Endra S Atmawidjaja, Tuesday (23/4/2024).

Endra explained that of the strategic projects proposed by Indonesia, there are projects that are already running, will run, as well as new initiatives.

The three types of projects are then compiled in a compendium that is an annex to the Ministerial Declaration at the 10th World Water Forum 2024.

"So, this project compendium is not only for Indonesia, but the whole world because this is indeed for the world forum," said Endra.

Therefore, related to the strategic project bidding worth USD9.6 billion, Endra said the amount did not only come from Indonesia's strategic projects, but included strategic projects from other countries.

"For Indonesia, I haven't seen the exact amount, but this number will continue to grow," he said.

Endra also invited all ministries, institutions, and communities to participate to make the 10th World Water Forum a success.

He elaborated that the success expected is not limited to the event proceeding well, but includes the impact that the World Water Forum has on the promotion of Indonesian tourism and the impact on MSMEs in Bali.

"Then it also has an impact on Indonesia's global image, about Indonesia's strong leadership," he said.

The 10th World Water Forum focused on four things, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disasters.

A total of 244 sessions in the forum are expected to provide concrete results on mainstreaming integrated water resources management (IWRM) on small islands, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and the establishment of World Lakes Day.
