Indonesia to Present Unforgettable Tourism Experience at  10th World Water Forum

The 10th World Water Forum, which will take place in Bali on 18—25 May 2024, will serve as a means for Indonesia to promote its abundant resources in thr tourism sector and creative economy sector.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, in his statement on Thursday (9 May 2024), said that his party is collaborating with various parties to present various programs and activities, in which more than fifty thousand participants of the 10th World Water Forum can participate.

"We are all out to provide full support to make the World Water Forum successful. Tourism and creative economy communities are ready to give their best so that delegates get a memorable, quality, and sustainable tourism experience," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga.

The activities include the Melukat procession, in which delegates can participate. Melukat, or Balinese Water Purification Ceremony, is a traditional Balinese ritual with the concept of the Rahina Tumpek Uye and the Segara Kerthi Ceremony activities.

Through those activities, the delegates are expected to be able to explore the Melukat process, which explicitly has spiritual meaning for the Balinese people.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency specifically provides support by presenting the Indonesia Pavilion at the World Water Forum 2024  Expo. In the pavilion, the ministry offers various exciting attractions ranging from content and activation of a game called "Lokapala" from Anantarupa, which highlights culture and folklore and is heavily infused with elements of Indonesian local wisdom.

The pavilion will also offer virtual reality (VR) participatory activities with Indonesian tourism content in collaboration with Go Virtual. Another activity is calculating the potential impact of the organization of World Water Forum 2024 on the environment through carbon footprint in partnership with Trace.in. In addition, there are low carbon/climate-positive/regenerative tourism packages offered in the pavillion.

The ministry also facilitates and provides information regarding UNESCO Global Geoparks in Indonesia, which are paired with sustainable tourist villages. In addition, it provides a planogram to offer curated creative economy MSME products for sale, while providing Wonderful Indonesia souvenirs and goodie bags

"Together with the Bali Provincial Government and the PUPR Ministry, we will hold the 2024 World Water Forum Cultural Parade," said Sandiaga.

The ministry will also prepare visits for delegations to various destinations, including the Jatiluwih Tourism Village, famous for its subak system. Subak is a traditional organization that regulates the irrigation system used in rice cultivation in Bali. UNESCO designated Jatiluwih as a World Cultural Heritage in 2012.

"We have previously carried out a review and confirmed that all activities will involve tourism and creative economy players in Bali," said Sandiaga.

Minister Sandiaga ensured that the organization of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali would fully adhere to Indonesian cultural values, especially Bali. For example, the opening ceremony, gala dinner, and closing ceremony will present a variety of cultural and culinary specialties.

"The sound, the taste, the smell, the feel, will perfectly make an impression on the delegates," said Sandiaga.

In the end, the 10th World Water Forum aims to provide a significant multiplier effect for the tourism industry and creative economy from upstream to downstream, encouraging the opening of new quality businesses and employment opportunities.

The MSME sector will also feel the impact, including tourist attractions, tour guides, local culinary delights, crafts, and souvenirs.

"The 10th World Water Forum will also serve as a promotional medium for the government to achieve tourism and creative economy targets in 2024. Such as the number of foreign tourist visits between 9.5 million and 14.3 million," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga.
