Jatiluwih Village to Display Its Potential to 10th World Water Forum Delegates

Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno confirmed that Jatiluwih Village in Tabanan Regency of Bali is ready to showcase its water management potential with local wisdom when receiving a visit from the 10th World Water Forum delegations.

"We ensure that Jatiluwih is ready for the site visit from the 10th World Water Forum delegation. We have seen several spots that have been prepared for the occasion," said Minister Sandiaga, on Friday (3 Mei 2024) when visiting Jatiluwih Village.

Sandiaga said that water management in several locations in Bali, which scrupulously observe local wisdom, has received world recognition from UNESCO. For that reason, the Ministry considers it ready to be displayed at the 10th World Water Forum, which will be held on 18—25 May 2024.

Jatiluwih was designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 2012. "This solidifies Indonesia's leadership position in the world water management forum," he said.

Jatiluwih Village has a water management system known as the Subak system, which makes it known as the best rice producer on the Island of the Gods. Subak is a traditional organization that regulates the irrigation system used in rice cultivation in Bali.

Apart from that, Jatiluwih Village also has several activities to offer tourists, including trekking while enjoying the beauty of the rice terraces and many more. Thus, it is suitable to be displayed before the 2024 World Water Forum delegates.

Apart from visiting Jatiluwih Village, Minister Sandiaga also witnessed the release of endemic Balinese birds and the method of expelling birds called Kepuakan during his visit in Bali.

Accompanying Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy were  by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, and several echelon 2 ranks within the Ministry.Also present were the UNWTO Director of the Regional Department for Asia and the Pacific, Harry Hwang; Tabanan Regional Secretary, I Gede Susila; Chairman of the Bali Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD), Tjokorda Artha Ardana Sukawati; DTW Operations Manager for Jatiluwih tourist village, Ketut Purna.

The 10th World Water Forum will focus on four key areas, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation.

The forum’s 244 sessions are expected to yield concrete results regarding the mainstreaming of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on small islands, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and the declaration of World Lake Day.

The Indonesian government invited 43 ambassadors and four international organizations join in participation and success implementation of the 10th World Water Forum a success. (Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Communication Bureau/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WS/PR)
