10th World Water Forum Delegates Invited to Witness Segara Kerthi Ceremony

The Bali Provincial Government will invite delegates of the 10th World Water Forum to watch the Segara Kerthi ceremony, which symbolizes water as a vital component of life.

The ceremony demonstrates that the Balinese people treat and preserve water in both physical and spiritual aspects.

“The Balinese people’s water management has been carried out based on local wisdom for generations. This cultural strength serves as a good and interesting example for the delegates. All delegates will be invited to witness the ceremony at Kura-Kura Beach,” said the Regional Secretary of Bali Provincial Government, Dewa Made Indra, during a press conference of Forum Merdeka Barat 9 (FMB 9) titled “Bali’s Preparations as Host of the 10th World Water Forum” in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 May.

Segara Kerthi means treating water as a natural resource that cleans impurities. It must be preserved by not polluting water and causing environmental damage. The value of water’s purity and natural beauty must be maintained.

In addition to Segara Kerthi, another aspect of local culture that will attract delegates is the Pendet Dance. Young women will dance when state guests arrive. The dance is performed in front of the aircraft stairs for heads of state. For other delegates, it will be performed at the entrance to the VVIP building at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.

Dewa Made assured that the entire sequence of welcoming guests to the 10th World Water Forum, held from 18 to 25 May, will be carried out smoothly. As host, the Bali Provincial Government will provide services similar to those given to esteemed guests in previous international events held in Bali.

“Starting two days before the event, penjor decorations, which signify the welcoming of esteemed guests in the Balinese community, will be set up from the area around I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to the hotels and roads that the delegates will travel for side events,” he said.

Penjor decorations will be installed at the VVIP building, the airport exit, and several points leading to the delegates' accommodations in the Nusa Dua area. Penjor decorations will also be installed at event locations, namely the Nusa Dua area, GWK, BTID, Subak Tabanan Museum, and Jatiluwih.

The provincial, regency, and municipal governments in Bali consider that the trust from the world must be reciprocated with thorough preparations, down to the smallest details. This includes traffic signs, cleanliness, and aesthetics.

“This is a significant responsibility not only for Bali but also for Indonesia as a whole, in front of the world,” he said.

Dewa Made also urged the Balinese community to limit outdoor activities during the 10th World Water Forum to ensure the event runs smoothly and successfully. (Eko/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WW/FLW).
