World Water Forum's VVIP Exempt from Foreign Tourist Tax

Several main delegates or Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) of the 10th World Water Forum, held in Bali on 18 – 25 May 2024, will be exempt from foreign tourist levy. The Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Agency, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, made this statement in Denpasar on Friday (26 April 2024).

“There are several delegates who are exempted. If they propose several names, we will verify them first,” he said.

Since 14 February, the Bali Provincial Government has implemented the Bali Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 regarding Levies for Foreign Tourists for the Conservation of Bali's Culture and Natural Environment.

The regulation includes the requirement for foreign tourists to pay a levy of Rp150,000 for each visit to Bali. This policy also applies to the delegation of the 10th World Water Forum.

“The organizing committee will propose the VVIPs’ names for exemption. The remaining delegates from the 193 countries will need to pay,” said Tjok Pemayun.

However, he explained that the regional government had yet to reach the selection process as they are still preparing for tourism facilities and meeting points.

In addition, they are working on dividing the task of installing penjor (bamboo poles wrapped in young coconut leaves) along the route that tens of thousands of delegates will pass as a form of welcome.

“Sometimes, there are other tasks, such as penjor, where we need to collaborate. The airport route is the responsibility of the airport authority, while other tasks are handled by the Badung Regional Government, Jasa Marga for the toll road, ITDC, the Denpasar City Government, The Meru, and Serangan Island,” he mentioned.

The 10th World Water Forum in Bali will be held on the theme of “Water for Shared Prosperity.” Delegates from around 193 countries are expected to attend. (Ni Putu Putri Muliantari/Biqwanto Situmorang/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WW).
