Jakarta, 16 April 2024 – Registration for journalists and media covering the 10th World Water Forum, which will take place in Bali from 18 – 25 May 2024, has been opened from Tuesday (16 April 2024) until Saturday (11 May 2024). Registration can be done at https://media.worldwaterforum.org.

“Foreign media and journalists coming from abroad need to be aware that certain requirements must be fulfilled. Please check the details on the website,” said the Director General of Public Information and Communications (IKP) of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI), Usman Kansong, during a virtual press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (16 April).

Usman also stated that MCI will provide a Media Center as the information hub for the 10th World Water Forum. The Media Center will be at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) 2, specifically in the Tanjung Benoa Hall and Legian Hall.

“We will provide press releases, photos, videos, and other supporting informational content. Because coverage may be limited in some venues, we will make these contents available at the Media Center,” said Usman.

He also informed that media or journalists who cannot attend the event in Bali in person can obtain information and related content about the 10th World Water Forum on the website https://media.worldwaterforum.org.

“Please feel free to take and disseminate them further. All information is also uploaded on that website,” said Usman.

During the same press conference, the Expert Staff of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for Technology, Industry, and Environment, Endra S. Atmawidjaja, emphasized that the 10th World Water Forum in Bali will be a golden opportunity for Indonesia to lead the world in addressing water issues for sustainability.

“Indonesia will have a significant influence on the direction of policy in the water sector. Since the beginning, Indonesia has consistently pushed for water issues to be addressed at the highest level in various forums. There must be a strong push from policymakers,” he said.

Endra disclosed that during the meeting in Bali, Indonesia will reveal information related to water management, which is critical in various sectors, including the economy, socio-cultural, and others.

Specifically, Indonesia sets three missions to be agreed upon at the Bali meeting. These missions include the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience, the mainstreaming of integrated water management in small islands, and the regular celebration of World Lake Days.

“For the last point, as we must acknowledge, many lakes or reservoirs are disappearing both in Indonesia and other countries. This is important to discuss because lakes are one of the primary water sources, energy sources, and even flood controllers,” said Endra.

The opening ceremony of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali will take place at Melasti Beach in an event entitled the “Balinese Water Purification Ceremony.” This event will be attended by 1,500 people with the concept of Rahina Tumpek Uye (Balinese Hindu ceremony to express gratitude to animals and their role in human life) and Segara Kerthi (Balinese Hindu ceremony to seek blessings from the sea gods) ceremonies.

The Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park will host the Welcoming Gala Dinner on Sunday, 19 May. The event will be attended by 2,500 people and will consist of 500 VVIP and VIP invitations. 2,000 people have been invited to attend the second location at GWK Lotus Pond.

The Opening Ceremony and High-Level Meeting will commence on 20 May at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Nusa Dua. They will be followed immediately by interface meetings with responsible parties for political, thematic, and regional processes, as well as bilateral meetings with several heads of state. 5,500 participants will attend the opening ceremony.

The Fair and Expo opening will be held at Nusa Dua Hall BNDCC on the same day. The Fair and Expo venues will be spread across BNDCC, BICC, and Kuta Beach.

The sessions for political, thematic, and regional processes will be held from 20 – 25 May. Meanwhile, the High-Level Meeting and Ministerial Meeting will take place from 20 May to 21 May.

The Cultural Night (Farewell) will be held at Taman Bhagawan on Friday, 24 May. This event will be attended by 3,000 participants who will be welcomed and presented with Indonesian traditional food, regional dances, and culture.

Lastly, the Closing Ceremony will commence on Saturday, 25 May, at Mangupura Hall. After this event, participants will be taken on a field trip, including the Water Museum in Tabanan, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jatiluwih, Lake Batur in Kintamani, and the Cultural Village in Ubud.
