KBRN, Jakarta: The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) encouraged youth participation in the 10th World Water Forum. This international forum, addressing issues in the water sector, will take place in Bali in May 2024.

The Expert Staff of the PUPR Minister in Water Resources, Firdaus Ali, conveyed the statement on Tuesday (2 April 2024). “The younger generation must preserve the earth’s sustainability, especially the world's water, with the knowledge they have acquired,” he said.

According to Firdaus, several challenges threaten the availability of clean water. These challenges include rapid population growth, uncontrolled development, and global climate change.

“We witnessed drought throughout last year caused by El Niño,” he said. Similarly, there have been floods in Demak and Kudus due to extreme weather conditions some time ago.

Firdaus stated that these ongoing issues will continue if handled as usual. “Therefore, it is crucial to implement integrated water resource management through strong collaboration,” he said.

Collaborations between the government and various stakeholders will drive integrated water resource management, “Especially through the contributions of the younger generation,” he said.

Therefore, Firdaus invited the younger generation to participate in addressing all challenges to the availability of clean water. “The World Water Forum provides a great opportunity for discussion and knowledge exchange in tackling issues in the field of water management,” he said.
